Français : Les armoiries de Chancy évoquent le rattachement définitif de la commune à Genève, au début du XVIIème siècle. Après l’échec de l’Escalade, la Savoie n’avait pas pu conquérir la ville, mais contrôlait toujours la plus grande partie de la région. Genève, de son côté, souhaitait que le roi de France reconnaisse sa souveraineté exclusive sur trois enclaves réformées : Chancy, Avully et Aire-la-Ville.
Jacob d’Anjorrant s’en fut donc à Paris. Avec l’aide de François de Chapeau-rouge et après de longues et difficiles négociations, il obtint finalement gain de cause. Dès lors, les armes de la famille d’Anjorrant, venue du Berry à Genève au milieu du XVIème siècle, furent choisies en hommage et remerciement pour l’obtention d’Henri IV des lettres patentes (29 avril 1604) qui reconnaissaient la souveraineté de la Seigneurie de Genève sur Chancy et Avully. |
